There are few things we love more than a really great song, one that has an addictive chorus, irresistable hooks, a bridge that leaves you in awe and like a drug, a fix you need to hear repeatedly to sate your appetite.
At Stuck on Repeat, we want to be part of the conversation about what we listen to and why we like it (or don’t) and we don’t believe that conversation is only worthwhile if we’re honest with ourselves. The Welsh twee band Los Campesinos! sang about finding “the perfect match between pretentious and pop” and while we acknowledge plenty of grey area, we prefer the latter. Generally, we prefer what is accessible and catchy to what is obtuse and exclusive. We also strive to write much more about what we like than what we dislike because, really, it’s more fun that way. Moreover, we prefer not asking about guilty pleasures, not just because we don’t like applying guilt to pleasure (we certainly aren’t The Vatican) but because the day we’re writing this is also the last day of 2010 to buy Girl Scout Cookies.
Still, Insane Clown Posse will always suck.
About me (and switching to first-person): I’m Chris Burlingame and I’ve been writing about music for over six years. I’ve written mostly for the Seattle indie pop/rock site Three Imaginary Girls for most of that time but also wrote for Rockrgrl magazine before that. I’ve been published (once!) in the Seattle Weekly. When forced to choose, my favorite band of all time is Sleater-Kinney and I take pride in being able to say truthfully that I’ve seen Lydia Lunch and Kelly Clarkson perform on the same night (sadly not together).
